
SURAKARTA, Central Java, Indonesia – February 20, 2025 – The Master’s Program in Linguistics, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) has held its Inaugural Lecture (“Kuliah Perdana”) for its new students. The event, aimed at providing a comprehensive introduction to the academic environment and fostering student motivation, took place at Ruang Sidang 2, Gedung I. Suharno FIB.
The inaugural lecture served to familiarize new students with the academic and cultural landscape of the university. Its primary objectives included providing clear information on the higher education system and academic regulations, orienting students to campus culture, building a sense of belonging and attachment to the campus, motivating students to face challenges, introducing campus infrastructure and facilities, conveying the campus’s vision, mission, and expectations, and facilitating socialization among new students. The event also aimed to prepare students for academic challenges, introduce campus facilities, and foster social interaction among peers.
The event was attended by 25 participants. Dr. Dwi Susanto, S.S., M.Hum., the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Prof. Dr. Djatmika, M.A., the Vice Dean for Academic and Research Affairs, and Dr. Arifuddin, Lc., M.A., the Head of the S-2 Linguistics Study Program, were present at the event. The lecture featured Rahmaditya Khadifa Abdul Rozzaq Wijaya, S.Pd., M.Li., as a speaker.
Rahmaditya Khadifa Abdul Rozzaq Wijaya, S.Pd., M.Li., delivered a session focusing on the signs of “writer’s block” such as loss of writing spirit, difficulty focusing, brain fog, running out of ideas, and continuous stress. The speaker also provided strategies to overcome it, including creating a writing ritual, consistent daily writing, trying freewriting, taking short walks, and stopping perfectionism. Additionally, the speaker provided guidance on the pre-graduation phase, emphasizing consistent and intensive mentorship with the promoter team, enthusiastic revision according to promoter’s directions, preparing drafts of journal and proceeding articles, considering several target journal options, and remembering to utilize EAP (English for Academic Purposes).
The “Kuliah Perdana” is a strategic event designed to provide a strong foundation for new students in commencing their educational journey at the university. It aims to ensure students are academically and psychologically prepared. The inaugural lecture provides essential information, helps students adapt to the new environment, conveys the campus’s vision and mission, boosts student motivation, reduces stress and anxiety often experienced by new students, introduces facilities that support the learning process, builds a sense of attachment to the campus, and introduces students to the campus community.
