Welcome to the Master’s Program in Linguistics at Universitas Sebelas Maret. In an era where communication is key and understanding is a bridge, we offer a space for you to delve into the essence of language and its role in shaping our world. We provide two relevant and dynamic specializations—Descriptive Linguistics and Translation Studies.
This program attracts scholars not only from across the Archipelago but also from the international arena. We’ve designed our curriculum to meet the increasingly complex challenges of our time, from the need for applied research to the urgency of linguistic demands at both national and global levels. The history of the Master’s Program in Linguistics is a story of continuous dedication and growth. Established on October 22, 1997 (through Decree No. 414/DIKTI/Kep/1997) and commencing education in September 1998 (with operational permit SK 2431/D/T/K-N/2010), this program has nurtured numerous experts and contributors in the field of linguistics.
Initially, we operated within the UNS Postgraduate School. However, along with the dynamics and developments in science, since 2020, the operations of both the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Linguistics are now housed in the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. This relocation is not merely about location; it’s a reflection of our commitment to continuous growth and adaptation, aiming to provide the best education in harmony with cultural and scientific advancements.
